installation could not open windows image file error

I have downloaded Windows Vista Beta 2 and am trying to install it on one of my Virtual PC virtual machine's. Setup is fine until after I enter the product key and click next. I get the error "Installation Could Not Open Windows Image file". Then it goes back to the start screen, I have retried it several times and get the same message. Is there somthing I am doing wrong? Let me know if you need anymore information on my setup or what I am doing. Thanks for the help.

First of all, I would say Virtual PC 2004 is not a recommend choice, but persons have been successful. I recommend using VM Ware Workstation 5.5 or Virtual Server 2005 R2. VM Ware Workstation 5.5 preferrably. The more RAM you assign to the Virtual Machine, the better the experience, I recommend a minimum of 512 MBs or more.

any success with this yet? i have the same problem, but on a simple install to my second HD...

I think it is a problem with Virtual PC. I will try Virtual Server or VMWare and post the results.

I got the same thing you did when I first tried installation using Virtual PC 2004. I then downloaded and installed Virtual Server 2005 R2 and installed it to the point of the first re-boot. Then I used Virtual PC 2004 to re-boot and finished the installation. Now it runs fine within Virtual PC 2004. I'm still not too sure what the problem was or what the error indicates is missing with Virtual PC 2004. If I find out I'll let the collective know.
If anybody had any other experiences/tricks for making it work let us all know. Thanks.

P.S. Virtual PC 2004 also had SP1 applied and is current with all patches.

I have a brand new hard drive, 1gb of ddr2 ram and a dual core processor and still I can’t install windows vita beta2, I get Installation Could Not

Open Windows Image file.
